Louis takes silver at the Sandwell Triathlon

JAKE Louis claimed a podium place for Rugby Junior Triathlon Club at one of the toughest events in the race calendar.

13 of the club’s athletes headed to Sandwell Valley Country Park for the Sandwell Triathlon, which consisted of a lake swim, road cycle and run around around Swan Lake.

Starting off the event was the Tri Star 1 category for nine and ten year olds, in which William Dredge (6th) was the fastest Rugby runner, finishing in 18:27 after a 150m swim, 2000m cycle and 1200m run.

Following a few minutes after was Benjamin Spires (16th) in 21:35, and Nate Tilt (17th) in 22:36.




Meanwhile, Holly Allen was the fastest girl in the category, finishing seventh in a time of 20:17, followed closely by Layla Rose (8th, 20:33) and Niamh Daly (11th, 22:33).

In Tri Star 2 – contested by 11 and 12 year olds, Emily Hayward (4th, 22:51) and Scarlett Sanders (5th, 23:31) impressed, while Zoe Dredge (13th, 28:48) and Eleanor Thomas (15th, 39:52) were the other two Rugby athletes to conquer the 200m swim, 4000m cycle and 1800m run event.


Captains Luke Broomhead (11th, 32:16) and Hannah Tilt (14th, 35:52) were the sole representatives in TS3, which consisted of a 300m swim, 6000m cycle and 2400m run.

In the final event of the day, Louis finished second to win a silver medal after completing the 400m swim, 8000m cycle and 3000m run in the Youth category (15-16 years) in a time of 33:53.
