FOOTBALL: LUTTERWORTH kick-started 2017 in style by taking all three points at Dunley Way after beating Cottesmore Amateurs 5-0 on Saturday.

The Swifts needed to be patient as they shared possession with a well organised Cottesmore side early on as both teams struggled to find the breakthrough.

Pressure mounted on the Cottesmore defence and after some good Lutterworth interplay, Joe Herbert found himself one-on-one with the full back before beating him and squaring the ball to hitman Tendai Daire who made no mistake in opening the scoring.

Cottesmore rallied and were hoping to get into the break only a goal down but once again Herbert slipped past his man and smashed home from just inside the box to make it 2-0 Lutterworth at half time.

In the second period Cottesmore’s neat football failed to create any chances for the visitors with Shaquille O’Neil Brooks and Ben Tye snuffing out any possible threat immediately.

And it was not long before it was 3-0 to the home side when Marshall Keenan beat the offside trap to close down on goal and he hemmered the ball home for Town’s third.

Swifts were in confident mood now and they took the game out of the visitors’ reach. Louis Samuels provided an excellent outlet down the left with man of the match Marshall Keenan joining in to terrorise the Cottesmore defence.

Tendai Daire scored the goal of the game with an outrageous overhead kick from inside the box which was perfectly placed into the corner of the net.

The introduction of Luke Shaw, Anthony Roberts and Greg Taylor gave the Swifts another goal. This time Herbert released Roberts down the right flank and he crossed for Marshall Keenan to leap high and lift the ball over the stranded keeper for what proved to be the final goal of the game.

Lutterworth are back in action this Saturday when they host Coalville Town Development Squad.
