THEY have dodged, dipped, dived and ducked their way to an unprecedented dodgeball double.
Lutterworth Dodgeball Club’s first team The Meteors are the current Premier League champions, winning 14 of their 18 games in the 2013/14 season.
They recently added the National Championships to their honours, winning all six games in the finals at the NIA to become the first club to hold both titles.
And now they are hosting the first tournament of their own in an effort to recruit more players to what is one of the fastest growing sports in the country.
They are hoping to sign up 20 teams for the event at Coventry Road recreation ground on Sunday, July 27 in specially built courts.
A target of £1,500 to be raised for charities such as LOROS, Macmillan, Bobby Moore Fund and the air ambulance has also been set by organisers and Meteors players Simon Jones and Brett Koenig.
Those who have not played before will get some coaching before hand with the title-winning players offering to line up with the novice sides during their games.
“We are the number one ranked team in the UK and after a successful season representing our club and playing for England we have decided to promote the sport and raise money.” said Meteors player Brett, who will play for England Lions in the upcoming European Championships in Vienna.
“We’ve been ambitious in the number of teams were aiming for, but anyone can play. It is great fun to play and it’s a fairly easy game to learn.
“We are looking to run a fantastic day of Dodgeball for a great cause.”
The event is sponsored by several local businesses including Lutterworth Sound and Vision. Entry costs £60 per team of six players.
Anyone interested in entering should call Brett on 07725 965105, Simon Jones on 07543 659133 or email [email protected].
