A FREE cycling initiative is set to continue following huge demand and booming interest during an initial six week pilot run.

The Dirt Bike Club, staged at Bretford Playing Fields, hosted the last of its scheduled six events on Saturday (August 13).

However the concluding session attracted its biggest attendance to date, boosted by Britain’s Olympic cycling successes in Brazil.

Growing interest has now left organisers with no option but to extend the Dirt Bike Club until Saturday (September 24).

Parents and volunteers welcomed the decision to extend the club, which came after discussion with all concerned.

Ian Gregory, whose 13-year-old sons Owen and Lee have attended every session of the club, said: “My sons love the sport.

“It’s well organised with a full licensed coach and is well structured.

“Every youngster loves to ride bikes so the Dirt Bike Club was the perfect fit.”

The club has won backing from the Coventry, Warwickshire and Solihull Sports Partnership and British Cycling – the governing body of cycle sport in the UK.

Aimed at youngsters aged between eight and 18-years-old, the sessions teach basic bike handling skills, race tactics and the chance to compete at cycle speedway.

The sessions are staged at Brandon Bees Cycle Speedway Club, call 07400 993999 for further information about the club.
