RUGBY is celebrating the launch of a new netball league, which vows to get more local women onto the court.
Leagues4you – which already runs a number of Netball Fun Leagues across Worcestershire, has now decided to branch out into Rugby, extending its reach of over 3,100 players.
League Development Officer, Emma Edmonds, believes the reason for the growing interest and popularity of the sport in recent years has been in part to the England Roses netball team – and hopes it can serve to get more women playing netball.
“We’re passionate about getting people back into sport and make playing as hassle free as possible,” she said.
“We take away a lot of the barriers that prevent women from taking part, so more people can go from couch to court.
“Our leagues work well as a feeder league into the England Netball affiliated leagues, we have had lots of teams who we’ve put together go on to enter the local EN league and climb the divisions.”
Edmonds reiterated that all participants over the age of 14 are welcome to join, regardless of fitness, ability, or age; whilst the league are responsible for the logistics of organising and scheduling matches, and providing kit and equipment.
Teams entered into the league are set to play once a week every Thursday at Rugby School, starting from April.
Sessions take place between 7pm to 9pm, with a ‘refresher’ session being held on April 11 for players wishing to try out the sport prior to the league’s launch.
Players can join the league as a team, with a small group of friends, or sign up to join individually.
Costs per team work out at £32 per match, but at just £4.50 per player each week.
