Plenty of positives for Rugby swimmers

THEY may not have come away with many medals from the Coventry and District Primaries event, but Rugby Swimming Club members produced several strong performances at an event full of talent.

The event attracted a very high standard with the likes of Coventry, Leamington and Stratford all being represented by strong swimmers, some of which have competed in national and international events.

Rugby struggled to win medals but they were backed up by a positive number of finals from a pleasingly diverse range of swimmers.

Star of the show, from a Rugby perspective, was Matt Seaton, who claimed victory in the boys 11/12s 50metre backstroke.

Seaton’s time of 32.01 will trouble swimmers of all ages in the club championships in two weeks.

He back that performance up with a second place finish in the freestyle equivalent and also came fourth in the 100metre freestyle.

Other medals were won by Luie Gilroy in the 9/10s 50metre free, where he was second in 35.01, a great improvement over his entry time and Luke Anspokes continued his rapid rise with third in the 11/12 s 100metre breaststroke.

Aaron Kirkardy finished fourth in the 11/12s 50metre breaststroke in a time of 49.82, a little outside his personal best which would have seen secured second.

Tom Parker came eighth as he moved up to compete with the ‘big boys’ in the 15 and overs, giving away several years to some, but a decent time of 34.49 is promising as a start to his longer, specialist events.

In the girls version, Tamzin Kyte was sixth in 47.91 which was a full 1.5 seconds inside her personal best.

The girls showed the boys the way in the back with

Many other swimmers easily beat their personal bests and entry times which bodes well for the club ahead of the Autumn leagues this weekend.
