A BRILLIANT performance by the under-15 boys team at the Midlands Road Relays competition has capped off a fine 2014 season for Rugby & Northampton Athletics Club.

Adam Searle, Joshua Lay and Joe Musgrove finished second at the regional event to earn a silver medal in the 35-team field at Sutton Park.

Searle and Lay’s respective times of 13:16 and 13:20 were the sixth and seventh fastest of the day, with Musgrove running the distance in 13:38 to secure a team total of 40:14 which was 16 seconds ahead of third-placed City of Stoke and 45 seconds behind winners Charnwood.

There were also impressive performances from Emer Wintsch (14:54) and Charis Hayes (16:39) in the under-15 girls event following an outstanding season on the track which place them ninth and 66th respectively but they did not receive a team ranking because they were without a third team member.

Emily Waugh and Tilly Lea were also without a third team member but showed their qualities as Waugh finished the 5k course in 15:38, the 12th quickest time of the day, with Lea recording a time of 18:12.

The club also competed in the Senior Men’s event where they finished a respectable 27th out of 81 teams with Jacob Allen recording the sixth fastest time of the day (18:07) over the 5.85k course.
