DEFENDING champion Ronnie O’Sullivan has been announced as the number one seed for the eagerly anticipated Champion of Champions event at the Ricoh Arena next month.
The five-time World Champion has only taken part in a handful of events so far this season but is targeting success once again in Coventry after winning last year’s inaugural event.
Other top seeds aiming to get their hands on the £100,000 on offer to the winner include current World Champion Mark Selby, who has been seeded number two, Australian Neil Robertson, seeded number three and fourth seed Ding Junhui.
This year’s event takes place from November 3 to November 9 and will once again be screened live on ITV4.
Chinese sensation Ding Junhui will be in action first when he heads up Group 4 on Monday November 4. Leicester’s Mark Selby will lead Group 2 the following day and O’Sullivan will first be in action as the star of Group 1 on Wednesday November 5.
After a day off, Group 3 commences on Friday afternoon with reigning UK Champion Neil Robertson the seeded player.
With most of the field competing in the International Championship in Chengdu, which ends the day before the Champion of Champions commences, the remaining players will be allocated to groups as they are eliminated in China.
“The Champion of Champions is the best of the best and fans at the Ricoh Arena and those watching on ITV4 will be guaranteed world class snooker from start to finish.” said Matchroom Sport Chairman, Barry Hearn.
“The venue is superb and the format proved very popular last year. Looking ahead, the field is very open such is the quality but it would take a brave man to back against defending champ Ronnie O’Sullivan!”
The 12 players already qualified for the Champion of Champions event are: Ronnie O’Sullivan, Mark Selby, Neil Robertson, Ding Junhui, Judd Trump, Shaun Murphy, Barry Hawkins, Stuart Bingham, Mark Allen, Stephen Maguire, Dominic Dale and Steve Davis.
