BATTLING Rugby Borough bowed out of the Beacon Hill League Cup after being edged out 3-2 by Blaby & Whetstone.
Christopher Anastasi netted twice in the first half to give Blaby a comfortable 2-0 lead at the break in Tuesday night’s fixture.
Five minutes into the second half Luke Jones pulled one back for visiting Borough before Jordan Brandish equalised with an hour gone.
However, within a matter of moments the hosts regained the advantage, with Anastasi completing his hat-trick.
Meanwhile, Borough continued their perfect start to their Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division campaign with a 4-1 home victory over visiting Asfordby on Saturday.
Adam Show opened the scoring for Borough after 16 minutes when he slotted home following some good work from Connor Gamble.
It took until the 51st minute for the hosts to double their lead with Shaw collecting the ball in his own half before beating three players with his blistering pace and firing home into the bottom corner.
Shaw then completed his hat-trick five minutes later when he rounded the Asfordby keeper and tapped into an empty net.
Borough then added their fourth in the 68th through Jordan Brandish before Asfordby bagged a consolation for the visitors with 19 minutes remaining.
Joint-boss Joe Conneely said: “I was very happy with our performance again.
“Asfordby were a tough, physical side to play against so once we started moving the ball a bit quicker in the final third we were able to create plenty of chances and perhaps should have been three or 4-0 up at half time.
“All we can keep doing is playing well and hopefully results will follow.”
