Rugby Borough go up at a canter

Craig Gibbons 18th May, 2018

RUGBY Borough secured promotion from Leicestershire Senior League Division One with an emphatic 9-0 victory over Anstey Town on Saturday.

Jamie Payne led the way with five goals, Borough’s top scorer Adam Shaw bagged a hat-trick with Alex Webb completing the scoring.

Borough can now seal the title on Saturday if they beat second placed Thurnby Rangers.

Manager Darran Tank said: “We’re a young side with many of our players under 20 and the physicality of the adult game was a concern.

“But skillful football beats aggressive playing and that’s what we’ve done.

“I’m very proud of what the lads have achieved and hope we can take some of that with us when we go up.”

Borough are now looking for sponsors ahead of their LSL Premier Division berth.
