RUGBY Borough got their Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division campaign off to the perfect start with a 4-1 victory over visitors Cottesmore.
Ollie Chater opened the scoring for Borough after 20 minutes before Luke Jones marked his debut with two goals inside eight minutes to put the hosts well in control at Kilsby Lane.
Lee Moore added the fourth midway through the second half before Cottesmore bagged a consolation from the penalty spot.
Joint-boss Joe Conneely said: “It’s always nice to win the first game of the season.
“There were a few nerves around before the game so we wanted to take control early on which we did.
“Overall, it’s the perfect way to start the season.”
Borough entertain Asfordby on Saturday (3pm KO) followed by a trip to Blaby & Whetstone on Tuesday night (7.45pm KO) in the Beacon Hill League Cup.
