RUGBY Junior Triathlon Club claimed eight podium places at the Kenilworth Junior Aquathlon on Sunday, building on their success the previous week in Nuneaton.
18 of the club’s athletes took part in total, and gave a good account of themselves at the Xcel Sports Centre in Coventry, swimming and running their way to further accolades.
In the Tri Start category (eight years), consisting of a 50m swim, followed by a 600m run, Eleanor Griffiths once again led the way for Rugby, finishing third overall (5:18), followed shortly thereafter by Ruby Daly in fourth place (5:37).
Jacob Hayward claimed second place and a spot on the podium in the process with his 5:05 time, whilst Finlay Heywood came home in fifth (5:31).
In Tri Star 1 – contested by nine and ten year olds – Holly Allen claimed first on the podium for the club with her 11:57 finish over the 150m swim and 1500m run course, whilst Layla Rose came fifth in 12:36.
Meanwhile, in the boys event, William Stiles was fastest (11:29), followed by Benjamin Spires in seventh (12:34), Nate Tilt in eighth (14:52) and Aaron Morris in ninth (15:51).
Tri Star 2 (11-12 years) was a successful category for the club, with the girls making up the top five places after finishing the 250m swim and the 2000m run.
Emily Hayward (13:22) took first, whilst Scarlett Saunders (14:09) in second and Georgia Stiles (15:23) in third completed a Rugby dominated podium.
Erin Beasley (16:52) finished fourth, with Rebecca Exelby crossing the line in tenth (18:28); while George Morris was the sole Rugby runner in the boys category – coming fourth in 16:18.
In Tri Star 3, contested by 13 and 14 year olds, Hannah Tilt (20:45) was the only competitor, but she made her mark by finishing second after a 300m swim and a 3000m run.
