ANGELA Copson entered the record books on Sunday after becoming the oldest woman to complete a marathon under three hours and 30 minutes.

The Rugby athlete was in action at Sunday’s Manchester Marathon where conditions were cool and calm for participants.

Running in what was her seventh marathon, Copson led the way for women over 60 and finished 93rd among all females in the race.

The 68 year-old completed the 26.2 mile race in 3:24.54 to beat the previous world best for that age by 11 minutea and 29 seconds.

Copson already holds the British records for the Marathon in both Women’s Over-60 and Women’s Over-65 categories, with 3:14.51 and 3:17.10 respectively.

With her impressive time in Manchester, Copson easily qualifies for next year’s London Marathon, where she will compete in the Over-70’s competition.
