HOCKEY: A STRONG start couldn’t be built on as Rugby and East Warwickshire slipped to a 2-1 loss against Loughborough Town.
Rugby started the game strongly with good link up play, creating chances and passing with accuracy.
A solid defensive display throughout the first half kept Loughborough Town quiet throughout, with few chances.
The half ended 0-0 with Rugby enjoying the majority of possession, however the second half proved different as the visitors took the lead through a tap in at the back post.
Town then doubled their lead with an identical goal moments later, and soon Rugby were chasing the game.
Tom Robson scored Rugby’s first goal at the back post to bring the home side back into the game. But his efforts proved too little too late as Loughborough held on for the remainder of the game to win 2-1.
2nd XI
MEN’S 2s played away at a strong Loughborough Uni side, and it proved to be a long afternoon.
Rugby found themselves 5-0 down at half time, conceding scrappy goals which keeper Connor Robson could do nothing about.
Things got worse for Rugby when a handful of older players pulled up with various injuries, allowing Loughborough to hit another three goals in the second half.
LADIES 1st XI
RUGBY Ladies stormed their way to the top of the table after beating Olton.
Despite this, Ladies made the Olton task tricky when conceding early in the first half.
But the goal provided the catalyst needed to spur Rugby into action, and soon Charlie Woolliscroft levelled the game with a one-on-one strike.
Crisp passing allowed Nicki Siarbawa to bag Rugby’s second and third goals before half time.
Though Olton pulled one back, the inspired Siarbawa smashed home her third to put the game beyond Olton’s reach.
