LILLINGTON enjoyed a tense victory over Rugby Thornfield in the Top Club final.

The match always promised to be close, but nobody expected the exciting finish which was all down to the last end being played by the Fours and Lillington held their nerve to win 25-22, which left them ten shots ahead overall.

Sue Hornsby (Lillington) played the singles against Abbie Ward and struggled to get going until the fifth end but then pulled ahead to lead 10-9 at the 12th end, but Ward proved the stronger and eventually won 21-15.

Pat Gagg with Grace Gallacher and Jayne Henfrey started well and they were leading all the way until the 14th end when the Rugby team (Pat Lowe, Sigrid Thomas and Christine Harding) picked up three shots to level the game at 10-10, before the Rugby side went on to clinch a dramatic 13-12 success.

In the Pairs, Lillington skip Di Thurlbeck and Margaret Grosvenor were resounding 26-12 winners against Pat Bax and Yvonne Bromfield.

With two losing rinks and one victorious, it was down to the Fours to try and clinch victory for Lillington through Jenny Corn with Hazel Goodman, Pippa Mace and Jacqui Cook.

They battled back from a big deficit to eventually prevail 25-22 thanks to three shots on the last end.
