THE FA TROPHY hoodoo continued to Rugby Town at Butling Road on Saturday after they were dumped out of the competition at the first hurdle by Northern League side Stafford Rangers.
The opening period proved to be a relatively uninspiring affair with the hosts having the better of the chances but Stafford goalkeeper Adam Whitehouse was in superb form inbetween the sticks.
He pulled of a superb reaction save to first push away Justin Marsden’s volley and he was alert again to deny Will Grocott’s near post effort.
The deadlock was broken four minutes into the second half when the hosts gave James Dance too much time and space and the midfielder was able curl his shot into the top corner of the net.
The visitors went on to have the better of the half, and Dance and Daniel Cope could both have added to their tally.
For Town, David Kolodynski saw his low effort when through on goal saved by Whitehouse and Sam Youngs struck the post with the last kick of the game.
