Rugby Town Juniors get vital funding for goalposts

Rugby Editorial 7th Sep, 2016 Updated: 27th Oct, 2016   0

RUGBY Town Juniors will soon have no excuses for not hitting the target after being awarded over £10,000 in grants to purchase five new football goals for their new astro turf project.

The new full size floodlit 3G pitch is taking shape at the club’s Kilsby Lane home where the artificial grass pitch will be used by the club’s many football, rugby, and Gaelic football teams.

The club were awarded a large grants from Sport England and WREN to help develop the new surface but they did not include money for equipment.

After searching for additional grant funding, Rugby Town Juniors secured £8,000 from The Rugby Group Benevolent Fund, £1,880 from The Heart of England Community Foundation and Rugby Borough Council supplied £1,000.

The goals, which are now on site, cost in total £11,500 with the club finding the additional monies from their fundraising pot.

“We are delighted that we have secured funding for the goals as it we mean all our 61 teams this year can enjoy their training sessions games and activities instead of using jumpers for goalposts,” said Brian Crinigan, who is part of project team.

“We wish to thank the three funders who have visited the site and seen what an excellent facility Rugby has for the community of Rugby. Without their funding we would not be in this position now. We are over the moon.”

Ian Southcott, from The Rugby Group Benevolent Fund, said the scheme was an ‘absolutely fantastic facility for the young players’ and the new goals were the ‘icing on the cake’.

Leonie Yend, from Warwickshire Community and Voluntary Action and volunteer panel member at the Heart of England Community Foundation, added: “I am very happy that Heart of England Community Foundation have been able to contribute towards this last stage of the project, and hope RTJFC are proud of this fantastic new community sports pitch.”

It has been confirmed this week that the first game to take place on the new astro turf pitch at Kilsby Lane is next Monday (September 12).

Rugby Town’s youth team will take on Alvechurch in a League game at 7.45pm and everyone is welcome with admission priced at £3 for adults and £1 for concessions, while kids go in free.
