Rugby Town Juniors lift Joel Richards Cup for first time in club's history

RUGBY Town Juniors under-18s lifted the Birmingham County FA Joel Richards Cup for the first time in their history with a 2-0 victory over Tividale.

A healthy 200-strong crowd with former Scotland manager Gordon Strachan among them watched on as Rugby Juniors made history.

Town went on the attack from the start and chances came in the opening five minutes with efforts going wide.

The Tividale keeper deservedly won the man-of-the-match award for a string of fine saves to keep Rugby at bay.

However, just before the break there was nothing he could do when Jordan Iverbu powered past two defenders before setting up Luke Jones to lash home.

The second half was similar to the first with Town seeing plenty of possession while Tividale defended stoutly.

A shot from Rugby’s Jac Redhead looked destined for the top corner but bounced back off the angle of the bar.

However, ten minutes later Town wrapped up the tie when Redhead played a one-two with Isa Abraham who curled a beautiful 20-yard shot round the keeper.
