RUGBY Town’s U9s lifted a second piece of silverware in as many weeks, when returning from another tournament in Banbury victorious.
The Tigers had to deal with bitter conditions in a tournament at Banbury United, which seemingly took its toll on the side, as they failed to score in three of their opening four matches in the group.
But with Alex Nixon, Arjan Nandhra and William Pfadenhauer forming a solid defensive trio, the Tigers only conceded once in their six group games.
Tigers drastically improved as did the weather, with notable performances from Olly Brown and Reid Hobson in midfield, Lewis Fox and Finley Turner down the wings and Gabriel Solomon in the forward line, as Rugby made their way into the final.
Their final went to penalties after extra time, but seemed to be heading for defeat when missing their opening two penalties.
However, a stunning one handed save when diving in the opposite direction from the goalkeeper took the shootout to sudden death – where the Tigers came out as the winners.
