RUGBY UNION - Old Laurentians beaten by league leaders Spalding

OLD Laurentians RFC suffered a fifth consecutive defeat after losing 43-7 away at league leaders Spalding.

A fine individual try from Luke Townsend, who converted his own score, provided OL’s only points of the match at Drain Bank.

The result means Old Laurientians sit sixth in the Counties 1 Midlands East (South) table.

OL’s made a raft of changes due to injury and availability as Spalding crossed for the game’s first try on five minutes.

However, OL’s responded with a converted try of their own when Townsend sprinted over from more than 50-metres out as he fended off a number of tacklers before dotting down and converting his own score.

League leaders Spalding scored three tries in the final few minutes of the half to take a 24-7 advantage into the break.

And three second half tries took the game away from OL’s as the home side’s forward power proved too much for the visitors.

Old Laurentians are next in action at home to Spalding on Saturday, March 30 with kick-off at 3pm at Fenley Field.
