RUGBY UNION - Old Laurentians suffer defeat at bottom club Long Buckby

OLD Laurentians RFC suffered a disappointing 24-12 defeat away at bottom club Long Buckby as the home side secured just their second win of the season.

The visitors had to make wholesale changes due to injury and non-availability as Long Buckby made the most of their bigger and heavier pack at Station Road.

And the result means Old Laurentians sit sixth in the Counties 1 Midlands East (South) table.

A pitch in poor condition began to deteriorate from the first whistle which made it difficult for both teams to play any free-flowing rugby.

Old Laurentians fly-half Dan O’Brien kicked four penalties to keep the visitors in touch after Long Buckby ran in three tries.

However, the home side added a bonus point try to seal victory with the visitors unable to muster a response despite a series of penalties and Long Buckby losing two players to the sin bin late on.

On a positive note for Old Laurentians, Jordie Pocknell returned to the field as a second half replacement after more than two years out with a serious ankle injury.

Old Laurentians are next in action away at Stamford on Saturday, March 9 with kick-off at 3pm at Hambleton Road.
