OLD Laurentians RFC suffered a heavy 74-12 defeat away at title-chasing Stamford.

The visitors conceded 12 tries at Hambleton Road as Luke Townsend and Elijah Crews crossed for Old Laurentians while Dan Price kicked a single conversion.

And the result means Old Laurentians sit sixth in the Counties 1 Midlands East (South) table.

Old Laurentians fielded just five players who featured in their early season 26-10 win against Stamford who have lost just two games since defeat at Fenley Field.

The initial meeting between the two clubs at Hambleton Road was abandoned on the hour mark in December after Stamford suffered two serious injuries with little to separate the teams at the time.

Old Laurentians are next in action at home to Market Bosworth on Saturday, March 16 with kick-off at 3pm at Fenley Field.

Elsewhere, Old Laurentians Colts battled to a 24-17 victory against Old Coventrians Colts in the Warwickshire Colts League.

With the Colts League now a round-robin mini-league between the top four sides, Old Laurentians kept their title chances alive with a hard-fought win – their third of the season against Old Coventrians.

Old Laurentians took the lead when Tom Craig touched down after a strong run from Billy Nobes.

And Old Laurentians struck again through James Lauder as Craig turned provided with a powerful run to send OL’s into the break with a 10-3 lead.

However, Coventrians turned the game on its head after the break with two converted tries before Oscar Webb had a try disallowed for Old Laurentians after putting his foot in touch.

Old Laurentians levelled the game when another excellent run from Craig ended in a try and Josh Funnell converted.

And Funnell then crossed for the game’s final try before converting his own score to seal a narrow victory.
