OLD Laurentians RFC finished the season with a 16-5 away win at Peterborough Lions to seal a sixth-place finish in the league.
The visitors scored their only try through Ollie Scobie as Ben Roach added eight points from the kicking tee and Dan O’Brien also converted a penalty at Bretton Park.
The result means OL’s finished the Counties 1 Midlands East (South) season in sixth place.
Roach kicked an early penalty to put OL’s into the lead only for Peterborough to cross for the game’s first try on the half-hour mark.
However, OL’s went into the break with a one-point advantage after injury replacement O’Brien slotted the ball between the posts.
OL’s dominated possession and territory in the second half but struggled to convert pressure into points until Roach successfully kicked his second penalty of the game.
And OL’s eventually scored their first try to seal the points as Scobie intercepted a pass before running in from 40-metres out as Roach added the extras.
OL’s will now compete in the Papa John’s Cup and have received a first round bye with the club to play either Camp Hill or Leamington in the competition later this month.
