NIC Potgieter ran in a hat-trick of tries on his return to the side as Old Laurentians cruised to a 45-13 bonus point win against Stockwood Park.

Playing in his first match since November, Potgieter scored three tries while Ollie Scott touched down twice with Alfie Dunn and Ed Sharpe also dotting down at Fenley Field.

And the result means Old Laurentians sit fourth in the Counties 1 Midlands East (South) table having won all seven of their home matches this season.

Old Laurentians scored the game’s first try after just two minutes when Scott retrieved Dan O’Brien’s monstrous kick before sprinting in from 30-metres out.

However, Stockwood Park turned the game on its head with a penalty and unconverted try to take a narrow one-point lead.

The home side responded when Potgieter sniped over for his first try of the afternoon only for Stockwood to score their second try and reclaim the lead.

Old Laurentians put Stockwood under relentless pressure thereafter and were rewarded when Potgieter crossed for his second try of the game before Dunn dotted down on his first team debut.

And Scott crossed for his second try of the match soon after with O’Brien kicking his third conversion to send Old Laurentians into the break with a healthy 18-point advantage.

The home side extended their lead after the break as Sharpe’s try all but sealed the points before Potgieter completed his treble.

Old Laurentians are next in action away at Vipers on Saturday, January 13 with kick-off at 2.15pm at Blaby Bypass.
