OLD Laurentians RFC snapped their five-game losing streak with a last gasp 26-25 home win against Spalding.

Ben Roach won the game for OL’s with the last kick after Dan Price, Jay Smith and Ollie Scott crossed for tries at Fenley Field.

The result means Old Laurentians sit sixth in the Counties 1 Midlands East (South) table with one fixture left to play.

OL’s turned the tables on Spalding after suffering a 43-7 defeat against the same opponents in their last outing.

Spalding raced into a 10-point lead after just 15 minutes through a penalty and converted try.

However, OL’s responded when first team debutant James Lauder used his pace to scythe through the Spalding midfield before offloading to Price who cruised to the line.

An exchange of penalties saw Spalding take a three-point lead into the break before the away side’s power at the scrum helped them create a try early in the second period.

OL’s cut the deficit to three points again when Smith crossed for the home side’s second try as the flanker made a welcome return from Royal Marines training.

Roach levelled the game with a penalty before centre Scott sliced through the Spalding defence to dot down and give the hosts the lead for the first time.

The visitors caught OL’s napping to reclaim the lead with a try from a quickly-taken penalty as the successful conversion put Spalding two points ahead.

However, after heavy pressure on the Spalding line, OL’s won a late penalty which Roach converted to win the game with the final kick.

Old Laurentians finish the season away at Peterborough Lions on Saturday, April 6 with kick-off at 3pm at Bretton Park.
