BEN Davison scored four tries as Rugby St Andrews returned to winning ways with a 32-15 bonus point victory against Castle Donington.

Davison scored four of Rugby’s five tries with James Carty dotting down the other in a back-and-forth contest at the Hillmorton Grounds.

The result means Rugby remain top of the Counties 3 Midlands East (South) table, five points clear of Northampton BBOB with a game in-hand.

Saints edged into a three-point lead when Chris Halcrow kicked a penalty after just two minutes only for visiting captain Kallan Keenan to power over for the game’s first try on eight minutes.

The home side struggled to deal with Donington’s powerful forward line but reclaimed the lead as Davison sprinted down the line to score Rugby’s first try with Halcrow converting from the touchline.

However, Donington levelled the game with the last play of the first half as Jordan Burke touched down after Saints lost a player to the sin bin and the visitors kicked a penalty to the corner.

Rugby made a blistering start to the second half and scored their second try on 46 minutes when a strong run from Carty saw the Saints man crash over the line.

And the home side struck again straight from the restart as Davison utilised his pace and strength to dart to the line from halfway with Halcrow adding the extras.

Donington responded when Warren Heather crossed for a try after a series of penalties before Saints lost another player to the sin bin.

However, despite the numerical disadvantage, Saints sealed a bonus point win when Davison squeezed over in the corner before he completed the scoring with his fourth try of the game from Will Headley’s pass.

Rugby are next in action away at Northampton BBOB on Saturday, March 23 with kick-off at 3pm at St. Andrews Road.
