BEN Davison crossed twice as Rugby St Andrews romped to an eight-try 46-17 bonus point win against Northampton Mens Own.

Davison touched down in either half while Jack Kettleborough, George Headley, Elliott Hudson, Fraser Caithness, Tanveer Devgun and Ryan Taylor also crossed for tries at Stoke Road.

The result means Rugby remain top of the Counties 3 Midlands East (South) table having taken maximum points from their opening five matches.

Saints made the perfect start when the returning Kettleborough scored the game’s first try after just three minutes.

A Northampton penalty briefly reduced the deficit before Davison created an overlap to score in the corner with Chris Halcrow kicking the conversion.

Saints captain Headley crossed for Rugby’s third try, weaving through several tackles to score, before Hudson utilised his pace and footwork to score the away side’s bonus point try with Halcrow converting.

The visitors picked up where they left off after the break as Davison collected the Northampton full-back’s attempted clearance before strolling in for his second try of the game.

However, the home side responded with two quickfire converted tries to close the gap between the two teams.

Saints eventually wrestled back control as replacement Caithness crossed for a try on the hour mark following a catch and drive at a lineout.

And fellow replacement Devgun then gathered a cross-field kick before kicking ahead and winning the chase to the line to dot down in the corner on debut.

Taylor completed the scoring with Saints eighth and final try, winning the race to his own kick to seal a fifth successive bonus victory.

Rugby are next in action away at Sileby Town on Saturday, November 4 with kick-off at 3pm at Platts Lane.
