THE WEATHER just about held up for Rugby Junior Triathlon Club members taking part in the 2015 Warwickshire Children’s Triathlon.

A miserable, wet and windy day greeted the 240 participants at the historic Warwick School on May 31.

And although the conditions almost threatened to end cycling leg of the event, the race went ahead.

There were 16 members of Rugby Junior Triathlon Club in action and with Olivia Glover, Evie Marston, Rebecca Exelby and Thomas Exelby all taking part in their first triathlon event.

The ‘tri start’ event involved a 50m swim, followed by a 1,000m cycle and finishing off with a 600m swim. Olivia Glover was the fastest Rugby member over the line after finishing in 12.04, and he was closely followed by Evie Marston (13.07) and Rebecca Exelby (14.29).

Grace Darcy (16.57) finished as the fastest Rugby member in the ‘Tristar’ category, which involved a 150m swim, 2,000m cycle ride and 1,200m run.

Luke Broomhead (19.49), Lucas Behle Coates (20.05) and Thomas Exelby (24.52) also took part in the ‘tristar’ event for 9/10-year-olds.

In the ‘Tristar 2 event, for youngsters aged 11 and 12, Toby Channing completed the 200m swim, 4,000 bike ride and 1,800m run as the fastest Rugby participant in 23.52.

Charlie Golver (25.22) was second over the line, while Charlie Glover (25.22), Charlie Bracken (25.45), Erin Darcy (28.05), Grace Marston (28.24) and Oliver Smith (31.14) also competed.

The next age group up saw 13 and 14-year-olds tackle a 300m swim, 6,000m cycle and 2,400m run and it was William Marston who was the first Rugby member home in 31.05. He was closely followed by Michael Channing (36.07).

And the final ‘youth’ category saw Adam Smith finish the 300m swim, 6,000m cycle and 2,400 run in 33.09.
