SAMANTHA Daniel took on the challenge of The Avengers Triathlon and finished as the eleventh fastest woman in the sprint distance event at Ragley Hall.

The popular event included a 750m swim across the boating lake, followed by a 22km bike section around Ragley Hall and the open roads of Warwickshire before participants took on the 5km off-road run through the tracks and trails of the Ragley estate.

Samantha, who is a member of Rugby Triathlon Club, struggled in the water after completing the opening swim in 23 minutes and 45 seconds but she soon picked up the pace on her bike as she went past three other woman racers.

She completed the ride in 50 minutes and 45 seconds before going past several rivals again on the run, which she completed in 28.05, to finish as the sixth fastest lady in her age group.

“I started doing triathlons last year and my first one was Daventry but this was my fifth and I’m pleased with the result,” said Samantha.

“I was doing lots of running events in the winter so I knew that was going to be a strong section for me.

“The swimming is my worst event but I just went at my own pace and I knew I could make up ground on the bike and I did that.”
