Short corners cost Rugby

HOCKEY: SHORT corners cost Rugby and East Warwickshire Hockey Club as Harbourne won 7-5.

A total of nine goals were scored from short corners by both sides – Harbourne registering five while Rugby added four.

The home side opened the scoring before Richard Hill levelled the game shortly afterwards.

REWHC found themselves in front when Szymon Oszyjczyk scored from a short corner to gift Rugby the lead.

A hard pressing Harbourne levelled the game once more though when a pair of short corners were both converted before half time.

Oszyjczyk scored his second goal of the game after half time to make it 4-4 before a series of decisions frustrated Rugby which led to some cheap cards being handed out.

Harbourne took full advantage of this to put the game to bed.

Even a late drag flick from Oszyjczyk to secure his hat-trick couldn’t prevent the hosts from netting three times as the game ended 7-5.
