Sky Blues must be masters of their own destiny, says Hyam

DEFENDER Dominic Hyam says Coventry City must take a point and move on – after a frustrating goalless draw against basement side Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday afternoon.

In a fixture that would very much define a six-pointer, the Sky Blues were unable to put more distance between themselves and the bottom three, hovering just two places and four points above 22nd-placed Rotherham United – who have three games in hand – ahead of the international break.

The 25-year-old was frank in his assessment of proceedings, and admits that while the hosts were not convincing enough in the attacking ranks, belief must remain that Coventry can escape from their current predicament.

“You can’t let it play on your mind, it’s in the past and has already happened, we have got to stay positive and keep believing in what we do and the chances will come,” said Hyam.

“I don’t think we believed enough that we were going to score, and that’s something we need to take into the next game – a bit more belief that we are going to score.

“We have got to be strong, it’s a clean sheet.

“We can only control what we can do, there is no point looking around because there is going to be twists and turns.

“We are the only ones that can affect it, if we keep getting chances then we will score.

“You have got to be worried when we don’t have chances, when you keep having chances then you have to bury them.”

And going into the near two-week break from the rigours of the Championship, the Scotsman is of the belief that City will be refreshed by the time they head to QPR on Good Friday, adding: “It will be a good opportunity for us to train more.

“We don’t really train much when there are so many games, we will have a balance of some time off and decent training.

“It is in our hands and we are out of the relegation zone at the moment, we have just got to stay there.”
