A SPORTS grant of £1,000 from Rugby Borough Council has enabled three of Rugby Triathlon Club’s juniors to undergo and complete Level 1 triathlon coaching courses.

Junior coaches Georgina Austin, Hannah Cooper and Elliot Parsons, were each awarded certificates for their success at the Junior awards night in March.

Bel Glover, past vice-chairman of the junior club, said: “The grant couldn’t have come at a better time, these three ‘older’ members will be able to act as mentors to the younger ones, help their own development and open up a different path within the sport that they all already enjoy.”

Tom Kittendorf, sports development officer at Rugby Borough Council added: “We are fortunate to have a thriving local triathlon club which encourages many local youngsters to take up this demanding sport.

“It’s great that the council’s grant is being used to enrich all of the junior members.”

Triathlon is a sport that combines the three disciplines of swimming, cycling and running into one and when the children are not competing in the summertime they regularly train at Rugby School on Sunday afternoons.

If you are interested in taking part more information concerning the club’s adult and junior sections can be found at rugbytriathlon.org.uk. You can join in with the Junior Club at their Sunday training sessions at Rugby School and participate in any or all of the disciplines.
