FOOTBALL: LUTTERWORTH Town earned their third consecutive league win on Saturday against high flying Buckingham Town.
The Swifts enjoyed the best chances of the opening half, forcing Buckingham’s keeper into some solid reaction saves to deny Tendai Daire on more than one occasion.
A resultant corner from one of Daire’s efforts was converted when the forward rose highest and powered his header home to earn Swifts a one-goal lead at half-time.
Shaun Leslie appeared to have doubled Swifts’ lead moments after the second half resumed when some desperate defending saw the ball turned into the back post.
However the linesman adjudged Leslie to be in an offside position, much to the confusion of the fans and Lutterworth players.
Lutterworth started to dominate the game as Marshal Keenan proved a threat on the left side.
His hard-work was eventually rewarded when a Buckingham attack was thwarted in the middle of the field – allowing Keenan to square the ball across goal once he’d made his way past Town’s right back.
He found Daire in doing so, who made no mistake in doubling Swifts’ lead.
With ten minutes to go, Lutterworth did concede.
Swifts were unable to close down a headed ball from a corner, which went into the top corner of the goal from 12 yards.
Buckingham pressed for the equaliser but could not find another and as they committed men forward.
Jordan Small, who made his return from a short spell on the sidelines, almost scored Town’s third. Denied by a last ditch tackle that could’ve been a penalty.
The game ended 2-1 as Swifts’ unbeaten run continued.
