Swifts hit a purple patch

FOOTBALL: LUTTERWORTH Town made one of their shorter trips on Saturday when travelling away to Long Buckby.

The low mileage had a positive impact on the Swifts as they picked up another three points following a solid 3-0 win.

It’s Swifts’ second league win within a week after beating Huntingdon 2-0 at home in the previous league encounter.

The game kicked off with Lutterworth looking the stronger side and dangerous on both flanks.

Buckby’s main threat came in the form of their speedy left winger, who Callum Riley did well to neutralise and keep the Swifts on the front foot.

On 18 mins the Swifts were in front after a high searching diagonal pass from centre-half Brooks saw Tendai Daire outsmart the defender and bring down the pass.

He then beared down on goal and smashing past the keeper.

Lutterworth were collectively strong and gave the home side no time in the middle of the park. And before long they made it two.

An excellent move which started with a marauding Louis Samuels who found Marshal Keenan on the left. Keenan then jinked into the box and squared to Daire, who scored his and Town’s second.

It took the Swifts just two minutes to open their second half account. Tendai Daire’s effort in chasing down a lost cause proved to be worthy as he was able to dispossess the defender and return the favour to the onrushing Keenan.

Keenan then fashioned a much more favourable angle and made no mistake in finding the corner.

The game was then out of sight for Buckby, who did still try to finder their impressive winger but man of the match Shaun Leslie kept him at bay and nullified the threat well.

The game finished 0-3 and the Swifts could have easily added to the tally.

Swifts are next in action when they host Buckingham Town on Saturday in the league.

Swifts: Kristian Bee, Callum Riley, Shaun Leslie (motm), Shaquille O’Neal Brooks, Mark Warren, Liam Taylor, Rhys Roberts, Marshal Keenan, Lynas King, Tendai Daire (C). Subs: Tom Marrs, Kade Lewis, William Clarke, Emmanuel Ndlovu.
