RUGBY Artistic Swimming Club enjoyed success at the West Midlands Novice competition as many of the club’s swimmers brought home medals from the event hosted by Walsall Artistic Swimming Club.

The event is open to swimmers currently assessed and working at an introductory grade level for their age-group with many taking part in their first competition.

And the event began with the figure competition, where swimmers are required to complete a number of artistic swimming elements, as Rugby produced a strong performance.

In the Grade Zero category, Amelie Jeary (12 and under) took silver before Georgina Stoddart (13-15) won gold.

Moving up to Grade Two, Rugby achieved medals in all three age groups as Keva Ennis won gold and Aaron Lee claimed silver (both eight to 10) before Keva also took silver in the 12 and under age category.

And there was also a medal for Emilia Owen (13-15) who claimed bronze.

The afternoon session saw the routine swims take place as Rugby’s two teams performed well in a competitive field.

In the under-12 age group, Rugby’s Division One Combination Team – Team America – took silver with a strong swim to their American themed medley of Kids in America, Party in the USA and Surfin’ USA.

The team consisted of club members: Alice Pavlova, Daisy Jenkins, Daisy Clarke, Darcey Townsend, Lucy King, Kara Duckett, Kara Anstruther, Leah Anstruther, Isabella Flaig and Molly Heard.

And Rugby’s 13-18 Division One Combination team of: Rebecca Harper, Georgina Stoddart, Freya Twiss, Jasmine Farr, Poppy Jenkins, Emily Minor, Jemma King, Emilia Owen, Harriet Humphrey, Beatrice Banks and Laura Read-Groves went one better by securing gold with their Aladdin routine.

Head Coach for Rugby Artistic Swimming Hannah Secher said: “A great event for our club with strong performances from our young swimmers, some of whom have never been involved in a competition before.

“I’m proud of all those who participated today and how they all handled themselves under the pressure of competing away from their home pool and under the watchful eyes of judges, team-mates and supporters.”
