Table-topping Welsh earn seventh successive win

Rugby Editorial 6th Jan, 2020   0

RUGBY Welsh avenged an earlier defeat to Chaddesley Corbett by claiming a seventh bonus-point win of the season in Worcestershire.

The 34-10 success got Welsh off to the perfect start in 2020, keeping them perched on top of Midlands Five West (South) after a solid display in both attack and defence.

An opening-minute try got the ball rolling for the visitors, following a move which ended with Jack Taylor going over for an unconverted try.

Chaddesley responded positively to going behind but were unable to find a way through the solid Welsh backs.

The Rugby forwards eventually drove their side into attacking positions and with pressure building, Jamie Roche evaded a couple of tackles to score. Glenn Bond subsequently converted the extras.

Lorenzo Galleno was next to find his way to the try line after collecting from Ricky Reed’s forward kick, though the hosts narrowed the gap with an unconverted score of their own to end the half.

But a strong start to the second half helped Welsh’s cause massively, with two early tries from Robin Tyerman and Jason Warren – the latter converted – putting the visitors in control.

As the game headed towards its climax, Chaddesley breached Rugby’s defence before Warren notched his second try of the game to complete the scoring.

Welsh host second-bottom Dixonians on Saturday (2pm).
