HOT swimming prospect Toby Rigg showed his potential in the pool after representing the Midlands region at the ISA Great Britain Championship at the Olympic Aquatic Centre in London.

Having qualified for the team during the Midlands Championships before the Christmas break, the Princethorpe College student and his family travelled down to London to meet up with his team mates from independent Schools across the country.

Toby qualified to swim in both the medley and freestyle relays, and was selected to do the killer leg of the 50m fly in the medley in the Olympic-sized pool.

But Toby was not daunted by the venue or occasion his team came fourth in the medley and a fantastic third place in the freestyle.

The Rugby swimmer clocked up two personal best times by including 40.73 for his fly leg, which was six seconds faster than his previous time, and he clocked 32.71 in the freestyle leg, which was a second faster than his previous personal best.

What made Toby’s performances all the more better was that he was giving away 11 months to his competitors with him being one of the youngest in his school year.

Toby has a bright future in the pool and when he catches up with the older boys he is likely to be in the mix for individual medals.

The Midlands had a successful day overall, with several individual and relay wins, but the London based teams came out on top in the majority of events.
