Town set for crunch Heanor clash

FOOTBALL: TOWN were not in action in the league the weekend just gone as a result of their scheduled match at Coventry United being postponed due to the hosts continued participation in the FA Vase.

Town’s inaction saw them slip out of the top half of the MFL Premier Division table, but they will be hoping to climb up from their current 12th place berth and ultimately close the gap on the promotion chasing teams at the top.

First up for Valley is a return fixture against Heanor at Butlin Road this Saturday.

Heanor are two points ahead of Town in ninth place but have played once more than Dave Stringer’s side.

They come into the game on the back of a creditable 1-1 home draw against current division leaders Sporting Khalsa last Saturday.

Stringer lost the services of midfield duo Josh Thornton and Fabian Smith over the past week, with the pair both opting to transfer to Rugby’s league rivals Long Eaton.

But the Valley boss is hoping to bring in ex-Tamworth and Basford striker Stuart Hendrie prior to the Heanor Town clash.
