RUGBY Borough have picked up where they left off, winning their opening two games of the season to top the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division.
Despite going behind in both games, two hat-tricks from Tom Rawlings helped Borough in their 5-1 thrashing of Desford on Monday, following on from a 3-2 comeback win against County Hall on Saturday, to ensure a perfect start for the league champions.
Peter Cuminskay gave Desford the lead in the first half despite suspicions of offside, but James Footman levelled after sustained pressure just before the break.
The goal gave Rugby plenty of momentum, with Matthew Teasdale scoring the go-ahead goal to spark a second-half blitz.
A quickfire brace from Rawlings extended the lead further, before he capped a fine individual performance late on with his hat-trick strike.
He was amongst the goals again on Saturday, first lobbing the keeper to level after Lewis Bishop had given the visitors the lead, before levelling a second time to cancel out Aaron Headley’s strike in the second half.
Borough’s endeavour was rewarded, and after being awarded a penalty, Rawlings hammered the ball home to secure all three points.
Ady Fuller’s side have a two week break before resuming action against British Airways FC in the FA Vase on Saturday August 31.
