RUGBY Town Juniors maintained their unbeaten start to the 2016/17 Midland Floodlit Youth League season thanks to a 5-3 victory over Stratford Town.

A second win in three matches has pushed Rugby Town Juniors up to second in the Premier Division South on seven points with Worcester City taking top spot on goal difference.

Rugby made the best start by going in front after just two minutes with Harrison Sawyer pouncing to score a close range header and 14 minutes Connor Gamble scored another header to double their advantage.

Just four minutes later Rugby scored a third through Sam Lockley and the youngster bagged his brace shortly after the half-hour mark to put the visitors in a comfortable lead.

Stratford did respond however and a goal either side of the half-time whistle kept them in touch. A Matt Clarke mistake led to their opener before just one minute after the re-start Rugby were caught out by a long ball.

The deficit was cut to just one goal on 47 minutes as Stratford looked to complete a remarkable comeback following a lack of communcation in the Rugby defence.

But normal service was resumed int he 50th minute as Rugby responded well by scoring a fifth as Cam’ron Barrett beat the offside trap before showing good composure to go round the goalkeeper and slot the ball home from a tight angle.
