Wasps can take their place in Premiership Rugby Final after latest Covid tests

Rugby Editorial 21st Oct, 2020   0

WASPS will play their Premiership Rugby Final against the Exeter Chiefs at Twickenham on Saturday after the latest PCR Covid-19 screening programme showed no further players or staff had contracted the virus.

It was feared Lee Blackett’s team would be unable to play after several Coronavirus cases at the club and Bristol, who Wasps beat in the semi-final, were on stand-by and ready to step in.

A test from one of Wasps’ coaching staff, who tested negative on Saturday, was damaged in transit and that person will be working socially distanced until their result is confirmed.

Stephen Vaughan, Wasps Group CEO, thanked Premiership Rugby, the RFU, Public Health England and Public Health Warwickshire for their clarity and assistance throughout the process.

“As a club, we are delighted we can now take our rightful place in this Saturday’s Premiership Rugby Final.

“To all of our fans and well-wishers, thank you for your many messages of support – this final is for you.”

The club will continue to adhere to its rigorous tracing measures and protocols.
