Youthful Borough side extend league lead with another convincing display

FOOTBALL: A YOUTHFUL Rugby Borough side triumphed over Aylestone Park Reserves to further boost their title winning credentials.

Borough are now six points clear at the top of the table having won six of their opening seven games, the other result being a draw.

Against mid-table Aylestone, Borough had to deal with awkward first opening 15 minutes with both sides enjoying lengthy periods of possession – though no clear cut chances on goal were presented.

The deadlock was broken though on 36 minutes when Sam Lockley put Borough 1-0 up after latching onto Harry Sawyer’s through ball and slotting it home.

A minute later Lockley doubled his tally and Borough’s lead, showing his bravery to head home a long kick from keeper Dan Flack

The two quick goals settled Borough down and the young side were now passing the ball well.

A half time team talk clearly worked in Borough’s favour too as Jack Blackham volleyed home Will Heath’s cross on 51 minutes to extend Borough’s lead to three goals.

Jack Blackham added Borough’s fourth minutes later when his strike went in off the post.

Danny Finlay then replaced Sam Lockley, and moments later Harry Cook scored Borough’s fifth.

Aylestone were now pushing more players forward, looking for a consolation goal, but found keeper Dan Flack in great form, diving full length and making two great saves to keep the team sheet clean.
