SUSPECTED robbers were arrested last night (Tuesday August 30) in connection with gunpoint thefts in Rugby over the previous two days.

The first incident saw a taxi driver threatened by a man with what was described as a dark silver “old-style gun”, after he had collected a man and a woman from Rugby train station at around 9:30pm on Sunday (August 28) and taken them to York Street. The offender demanded the driver’s wallet, phone and cash box.

The second incident happened on Tuesday (August 30) at around 4:30am at a hotel on Brownsover Road. A man entered the hotel with a suspected firearm and threatened the night porter to open the safe and hand over cash.

No-one was injured in either incident.

A man and a woman, both in their 40s, were arrested on suspicion of robbery.

Despite the arrests, enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information on either incident is urged to call Warwickshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 413 of Sunday August 28 or incident number 34 of Tuesday August 30.
