IAN King hopes victory against Hinckley LRFC will spark his Rugby Town side into life with Valley seeking to climb out of the relegation zone.
Rugby ended their seven-game winless run with a 2-1 home victory against Hinckley as Jahvan Davidson-Miller and Dan Summerfield both found the net at Butlin Road.
The win means Valley sit four points from safety in the Northern Premier League Midlands relegation zone.
Rugby face a crunch game against fellow strugglers Lye Town this weekend and King wants to see the same intensity from his side this weekend.
King said: “We know nothing’s changed and there’s still a lot to do to escape the situation we’re in.
“We’re up against another team down there fighting for every point [this weekend], so we need to continue from where we left off and show the same intensity again.
“It was pleasing to finally get reward for our efforts.
“With the exception of against Wellingborough, we’ve been there or thereabouts in all the games since I arrived – but we’ve either not had that little bit of extra luck or quality to get something.
“I’m really pleased for the players though, as they’ve continued to work hard despite the results.”
Valley deservedly broke the deadlock on 19 minutes when Davidson-Miller finished from close range to score his first goal for the club.
And Summerfield doubled Rugby’s lead on 30 minutes with a stunning first time strike into the top left corner from 25-yards out.
However, Hinckley halved the deficit five minutes later as Valley goalkeeper Paul Hathaway dropped Dom Brennan’s harmless looking free-kick over his own line.
Rugby boss King signed two young players prior to the game, handing debuts to striker Daniele Reka and defender Bodi Thistleton.
And King felt the teenagers acquitted themselves well in their first outings for the club.
King added: “It was an admirable performance from Bodi considering he’s just 16.
“He wasn’t phased at all and fitted in nicely. We’d watched him for Burton Albion’s academy and he caught our eye, so I was delighted to get him in on a work-experience loan.
“Dan’s also made a good contribution. He worked hard and led the line well.
“He’s only 19 himself and has already tasted Step Three action at Alvechurch. He potentially wasn’t going to get that much game time there this season, so with our shortage of numbers it was a good opportunity for us both.”
Rugby host Lye on Saturday, February 22 with kick-off at 3pm at Butlin Road.
