Strachan Football Foundation to host 2015/16 trials

Rugby Editorial 23rd Sep, 2015 Updated: 27th Oct, 2016   0

THE STRACHAN Football Foundation (SFF) is holding its first round of trials next month in a bid to attract the latest crop of talent to the ever-growing foundation.

Now in its fifth year, SFF provides a great opportunity for young people to continue their education while having the opportunity to learn from coaches with Premier League experience and who have played at the highest level of college football in the country.

It has delivered over 350 qualifications in the last four years and helped over 100 young people find full time employment, with numerous learners gaining entry to university while others have earned scholarships in the USA.

A total of 15 players have gone on to have trials at professional clubs including the likes of Swansea City, Nottingham Forest and Birmingham City.

The trials are open for school leavers aged between 16-18 and will be staged on the 29-30 October at the home of Rugby Town in Kilsby Lane.

The trial days will give each participant an insight into the opportunities available within the foundation, to train and get to meet the staff and existing players from the current group.

SFF director Gordon Strachan said: “It’s great to see young people not only developing as footballers but as people, we have seen boys earn contracts in professional football but have also seen lads go out to the USA coaching and progress onto bigger and better things in life.”

Strachan is not the only familiar face at the training ground, with the likes of former Aston Villa manager Kevin McDonald, former Sky Blues boss Steven Pressley as well as ex-players Gary Breen and Paul Williams taking sessions with the players.
