A CANCER fighting charity in Warwick has received royal recognition.
The Graham Fulford Charitable Trust was recently presented with The King’s Award for Voluntary Service by Warwickshire’s Lord Lieutenant Tim Cox.
Businessman Graham Fulford set up the charity to promote awareness of Prostate Cancer following the diagnosis of a close friend who died at the age of 58 and a close family member who died in 2007.
To date the charity has been involved in testing over 252,000 men and has so far identified 2,500 known cancers that might otherwise not have been discovered.
And, together with partners and corporate clients, the trust also offer a wide range of blood tests covering key areas as heart health and diabetes risk to name just two.
Since launching the initiative around 18 months ago, about 8,000 other tests for both men and women have been carried out.
The KAVS is the highest award a local voluntary group can achieve in the UK and is equivalent to an MBE.
Also honoured was the Veterans Contact Point team. The military charity supports those who have served in any of the UK Armed Forces who live in Warwickshire Coventry and Solihull.
Mr Cox said: “I was honoured to meet with representatives of The Graham Fulford Charitable Trust and Veterans Contact Point and present them with The King’s Award for Voluntary Service. Their unwavering dedication to their causes has transformed lives and uplifted communities.”
